Review of Resurrecting the Champ (2007) by James T — 13 Jun 2008
Surprisingly, I really liked this movie. It's a good father-son movie and also a strong lesson of what not to do in journalism. Plus I like boxing movies, so this movie connected to me on two different levels: as a journalist and a boxing movie fan.
The movie is well-acted and raises some interesting questions in journalistic ethics. I'm not a fan of Josh Hartnett, but I found myself liking his performance in this. Samuel L. Jackson is the one who really steals the show as he really injects into the role of the Champ a strong likable humanity that plays on our emotions and makes us questions his actions.
Sometimes the movie gets a little sluggish and might rush the first act a little, but I walked away from this pleased that I had seen it.
