Review of Restrepo (2010) by Joel K — 13 Dec 2010
I can't shake this movie after watching it. This is the most raw, intense, horrifying and moving film about war I have ever seen. There is no pretense. No argument or commentary about the rights or wrongs of the war, or war in general.
It focuses solely on the reality that these soldiers face while engaging in battle on a daily basis, and the bonds that they form through their experience, many of which are tragic and life altering. I wish everyone in this country would see this movie so that they can better understand what these men, some of which look fresh out of high school, go through on a daily basis for our country, and whether you agree with the war or not, this movie makes you feel for these people given the often life threatening situations they face away from their homes and families.
Definitely a modern masterpiece of documentary film making.
