Review of Restrepo (2010) by Warren W — 22 Dec 2010
I didn't like this piece. I thought it showed a complete disrespect for the fighting forces on both sides. Very unprofessional. @ the same time I knew it was trying to get me to sympathize with the Americans. Following a platoon of total goofs into a hotly contested warzone. They, the platoon are laughing and cracking jokes as they literally chop human beings to pieces with machine gun fire & oh we're sorry we killed your wives & children now sit back with us and ponder in shock & sadness at the loss of one field Sargeant Restrepo in a retalitory ambush.
It accomplished one thing maybe and that was to reignite the idea in my mind that the war in Afghanistan is futile ... however I still support our Canadian troops & their effort & their sacrifice, to bring a better quality of life to average Afghan citizens.... but if this National Geographic productions is any indication of what's going on over there I don't think it's going to work.
