Review of Restrepo (2010) by Robb J — 05 Jan 2011
"You are not understanding that I don't fucking care.".
At least when American soldiers were being portrayed as lower-class morons being stirred up & betrayed by their leaders (by Michael Moore) they were sorta likable. This apolitical documentary on war (lol, yeah... I know) portrays the guys from Generation X who signed up for the army flexing their muscles, playing Playstation, blowing up villages, disrespecting the people who they are invading, dying & losing their shit when reality hits home. Interesting that some film-makers stuck with making this film following some army brigade or other into a really sticky situation for over a year, they keep their opinions to themselves & let the soldiers do the talking - which unfortunately shows them up for the child-like, macho bullies that they are & fails to create any sense of connection, at least with me - an anti-war, hippy freak. What a surprise.
