Review of Restrepo (2010) by Aaron E — 06 Feb 2011
Restrepo lacks any analytical context on Afganistan and why the US is essentially fighting its self-made war, against the people they funded for decades against the Russians. Lots of attempts to make you care about a bunch of delusionary grunts and in the end I could not care whether they lived, died or went mad.
There is a bias towards the self-importance of US troops versus those of the people defending their lands against invasion and re-establishing political power in their country. It explains a lot of the Republican 'support our troops' propaganda in the US.
Kill, Kill Kill insurgents... freedom fries all round. Oorah! Oorah!
