Review of Restrepo (2010) by Kimmo J — 27 Feb 2011
Restrepo places me right in the center of somewhere I've never been in a film before: in a real-life platoon in the middle of Afghanistan. I'm a little astounded the film ever got made, and I challenge anyone to come up with a documentary that required more danger than this one. For that alone, it's an admirable feat.
The other thing I appreciate most about the film is its subtlety of message. It doesn't try to spin anything our way. There's no overriding narrator telling us how to feel about the horrors we're seeing. The filmmakers let these horrors speak for themselves. Michael Moore ought to take a look at Restrepo. He could learn a few things.
