Review of Restrepo (2010) by Alexander M — 05 Nov 2011
This is a breathtaking documentary that anyone who has even a fleeting interest in the war in Afghanistan should see. It does a magnificent job of allowing the images and statements of the men in the front lines of Afghanistan speak for themselves without succumbing to the tendency to layer in unnecessary explicit or implicit editorial commentary.
In addition, you really get the sense that you're there with the soldiers because of the tense situations that the filmmakers get into. Never has a death portrayed on screen ever seemed so real to me.
This movie is truly a film to remember, and undoubtedly will be of great value to historians in the future who want to understand the psyches of people in the front lines in Afghanistan.
