Holy sweet God--the first actual DOCUMENTARY I've seen in a long time. Two journalists embed themselves with a combat unit for 15 months in Afghanistan. There are no pundits, no talking heads, and--thank the Lord--NO POLITICS in this films.
It really is, quite simply, a DOCUMENTATION of soldiers at war. It's a combination of stark, indisputable fact as title cards, footage of the men in combat (absolutely FEARLESS work by the two director/cinematographers), and footage of interviews during the platoon's debriefing in Italy.
This is not a film about the war--it's a film about the men.
