Review of Restrepo (2010) by Josh D — 24 Dec 2010
Okay where do I start. It's a good documentary, but not exceptionally good. Soldiers' efforts, for the most part, admirable I guess. For the noble cause of opening up roads for the mountain people.
So they can get "rich" or whatevz. But you never really find out if that's what was achieved in the end. They were more proud of the fact that they built another military outpost that "changed the face of the Korengal Valley".
Destroyed its pristineness more like. I do get sympathetic at some parts. Losing men at war's never easy or fair, I feel for them when men are down. But I'm aggrieved by a few things. (1) The cow incident annoyed me.
Cows are bloody expensive and if my cow wandered off and some cowboys shot at and killed it, I bloody want compensation. That's MY cow. No amount of rice and sugar is gonna replace my cow. (2) Kearney annoyed me.
The AUDACITY of saying you feel bad for killing civilians "who may not have pulled the trigger but in some shape or form were connected" to the bad guys ??! Sheesh. You killed civilians! Unconnected to the bad guys! I just thought he wasn't apologetic enough.
And I've got issues with his crazy eyebrows. (3) The techno annoyed me. That was an incredibly wtf moment.
