Just like the war, this film doesn't really go anywhere. The lack of any stable narrative structure leaves you wondering exactly what it's all about. Yes, it does give an up close account of life at a front-line outpost but it fails to convey any depth of emotion or conviction of purpose on the part of the soldiers.
In spite of the rave reviews I felt this was a pretty shallow take on a deep situation.
