Review of Rest Stop (2006) by Everett J — 01 Feb 2009
Although low budget and low rate I have to admit that I was more than amused with this film. It was definitely entertaining and the acting wasn't at all terrible. I've seen Jaimie Alexander's previous work and I was surprised to see her so natural and real in here.
It was a role that suited her and she felt truly scared and raw in everything she did on screen. My main problem with the film was the 'bad guy'. He was there but it was like he wasn't... I wasn't specially shocked with anything that he did, I was mostly annoyed with him and that was it.
Another major problem was the fact that everything felt too unreal, I mean, the scene where Nicole (Alexander) shoots the cop on on the mouth and he doesn't instantly dies really did a number on me.
I mean, the guy's brains are on the floor, his blood is all over the place, yet he manages to talk to her and urge her to shoot him again! That was ridiculously unreal, at the moment I laughed at it, but come on! There was another good thing, though.
.. They managed to create a balance between the 'fear' and the gore. It was never too scary and never too gory, if there's such a thing, therefore it managed to be a descent B-rated film, that its not at all terrible.
