Review of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) by Jluis_001 — 26 Nov 2021
From 2002 to 2017 the world had 6 Resident Evil films starring Milla Jovovich.
15 long years of mediocre movies that really had nothing to do with the video game beyond some characters and of course, the zombies.
Now with only 4 years apart we have a reboot that tries to be more faithful to the source material and it shows, but splashes the good details with an unsuccessful execution, turbulent action and sloppy storytelling.
The merit that at the same time becomes a disadvantage is that Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, pretends to offer fan service instead of creating a true horror film that can stand on its own, and above all separate itself from the shadow of the video game.
You can be part of a franchise and still have your own identity, but while the director goes about giving little easter eggs that will only satisfy people who recognize them, he forgot to create a film that actually deserves to be seen for its best elements, instead of trying to sell itself with the poor and basic components of what it ultimately attempts.
