Review of Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) by Michael N — 07 Oct 2013
Considering that this movie is the next one in a long list of movies in the Resident Evil series I would say this one is one of the better ones. Don't get me wrong it would be very weak without the franchise but there were some things that added some new flavor to the mix.
I really enjoyed that this movie was focused on creating the T-Virus a weapon and to be sold as a product to world superpowers during the early stage of the Umbrella Corporation. The plot explains that the Umbrella Corporation bought out an old Cold War Soviet Submarine bunker under the parts of the arctic and turned each bay into a small city representing some of the bigger cities in the world.
The hope was to market the T-Virus as a new weapon with the intent to get all parts of the world to essentially destroy each other. I felt that the movie stayed closer to its roots concerning the video game but also to the plot line as we see a very familiar cast that has for the most part stayed together since the beginning which seems rare in today's Hollywood.
Acting was OK by all actors/actress and again the fight scenes were classic. This movie is definitely worth a watch. A standard Redbox seems adequate but it may be worth the 3D version as parts are specifically shot for this setting.
