Review of Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) by Derek W — 29 Jan 2013
At last an Resident Evil film that's good but does not save the series thanks to the terrible first sequel. While it doesn't present anything that is in any way original, it's fast and fun enough not to outstay its welcome.
This 3rd outing is slightly gorier and the action scenes were okay. Milla Jovovich reprises her tough-girl-in-sexy-thigh-boots role, and the survivors travel in Mad Max conveys up and down desert highways in search of fuel.
Better than the silly second installment and boasting an effectively creepy empty world setting, it's nevertheless scuppered by a lack of coherence. A good reference to the first game with the Tyrant but a stupid way to finish the film with a awful cliffhanger, but if the films are making money, then more sequels will come.
..... nice to see the crows in it though. Again, the problem lies that it's not scary and yet more action, which is better. This is better than the second sequel but sometimes, it's not always a good thing but is trying to go in the right direction, just ignore the fact it's a horror.
Worth a look if you like this sort of thing or liked the games or even the other two films.
