Review of Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) by Eli C — 20 Dec 2011
Resident Evil, my favorite game series of all time, gets an anime! Is it actually good though?
Well, Resident Evil has never been known for its storyline. It's fun, scary, and replayable. This film is fun to watch, it has some scares (Particularly where Glen is attacked by one of the zombies he presumed was dead, oh yeah- and the elevator scene), and after seeing it, I honestly thought I could see it again happily- and I did.
The return of Leon and Claire is actually very well done, and both of their VA's did a great job. Hunnigan also makes a return which is pretty cool.
However, I was disappointed by quite a few things.
1- Angela is a very forgettable protagonist who I don't think I'm alone in with no giving a fuck about her. -5%.
2- The trailer had music from Resident Evil 2. Resident Evil 2 had one of the greatest and most chilling soundtracks of all time. I WANT MY GODDAMN SOUNDTRACK!!!! -10%.
3- The Resident Evil 2 flashback was the best looking part of the film (Even though Claire shouldn't have had a shotgun in it- Claire gets the bowgun in RE2 while LEON gets the shotgun) and- it only lasts a few seconds. -5%.
You can stream this on Netflix, so if you have some time to kill and you want to watch a good video game movie or a good anime movie, I can't reccomend this enough. It has its flaws, but it's still way better than most video game movies by FAR.
