Review of Resident Evil: Damnation (2012) by John T — 22 Sep 2012
So the second CGI film is here and is it any good? The answer is, sort of. The live action films have been disappointing as they have morphed into a completely different beast but the CGI films have followed on from the plot of the games very well, including the new Las Plagas Zombies from Resi 4 and 5 and characters from the games aswel as some new faces not just for the sake of it but because its good for the plot and continuity, take note Anderson, following on from the liquidation of Umbrella and bio-terriosm taking a stronghold on the human race the plot is actually very real world and believeable, however its the pacing thats the problem.
In the previous CGI film, Degeneration, it had a pace and a decent structure but this feels like its all over the place and drags a lot during the 2nd act, its only in its finale that it picks up the pace and gets better.
I found my concentration waning in the middle section, just because of the dullness, or maybe its because I wasn't feeling too well :-/ This is a better film then most of Paul Anderson's efforts and if you have been following the Resident Evil games closely, you will see the connection it has and there are even some moments that pay homage to Res Evil 2 (Leons first encounter with a licker), its only because of this that I like it.
Maybe for the 3rd CGI film that I hope they make can they improve upon and make the best Resident Evil film, but until now this will have to do.
