Review of Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) by Bradley W — 03 Jun 2012
Resident Evil: Afterlife was not as fun as Extinction, and I felt that it took a major step back from trying to be great. They have brought back the original director Paul W.S. Anderson, and maybe that was the problem.
But no matter whose fault it is, they focus so much on action (like in Apocalypse) that the story ends up not even caring about anything that happens or its characters, which are still boring a droll.
The characters also in no way resemble their video game characters, in personality or image, and it may be fine to some people if they don't, but for me it's just annoying. Milla Jovovich has officially proved to me that she is just an action star and nothing more, because she cannot act to save her life.
The entire cast was pretty much useless anyway, they could've gotten actors nobody has even heard of and this film would have been no different. The action is fun as always in these films, but it takes more than zombie killing to make a good action film.
I like action films with humanity and at least good stories, I mean I compare this to a great zombie film like Zombieland and it just makes me mad how cheesy these Resident Evil films are. I may enjoy the action in this series, but it's not enough to save this from having absolutely nothing else going for it.
