Review of Resident Evil (2002) by Trevor L — 05 Feb 2012
Even with the diminished expectations that come with any videogame crossover, Resident Evil still manages to disappoint. Foregoing any attempts at storytelling or suspense building, it instead opts for dodgy CGI and by-the-numbers zombie-flick plotting, which combined with endless gunfire and a jarring musical score, adds up to a headache of apocalyptic proportions.
Even Milla Jovovich, whom I imagined to be the film's saving grace considering she's now piloted four of these movies and is set to unleash a fifth in September, looks bored throughout, and fails to bring any depth or interest to her character.
All in all it's a dull, noisy affair that will please only the most easily satisfied.
