Review of Resident Evil (2002) by Joe W — 28 Aug 2012
A serious guilty pleasure and Milla Jovovich makes it even more pleasurable. The audience (both male and female) will be spending more time looking at her gorgeous face and her legs whilst wearing that red dress. Making her character Alice, possibly the sexiest movie character of all time.
The movie itself acts (or tries to be) like a prequel to the game, none of the characters from the games are in this movie. The only things from the game are the Umbrella Corp., the zombies and the licker. Everything else, nothing. Which is why people didn't like it. Mostly "Resi" fans.
Milla's great at playing the super sensitive, super strong and super sexy lead, Michelle Rodriguez plays the same character she always does and the English actors James Purefoy, Colin Salmon and others struggle with their American accents.
The dialogue is dreadful with lines like "On your feet soldier." taken right out of Terminator. Mr Anderson, take a bow. But the worst thing about this movie is the CGI. The licker is was so laughable, I was in tears. The FX team didn't even try. I know it's a low budget movie, but c'mon.
If you're a fan of the games, you gonna hate it. But if you wanna see a dumb, fun, turn-your-brain-off-and-have-a-good-time film with a sexy woman in the lead, you might enjoy it. Marilyn Manson's score is good too.
