By and large, films based on videogames are crap. This, however, is perhaps less crap than expected (and also rather successful, spawning - to date - about 3 sequels).
In the first film in the series and, unlike the later - , the T-virus has not yet escaped Umbrella's Corporations secret underground facility, with the bulk of the film set in that facility. To be honest, it's really just an excuse to fill the screen for shambling zombies and a succession of action sequences!
