Review of Reservoir Dogs (1992) by Ryan H — 17 Aug 2017
The second best directorial debut in film so far - second only to Orson Welles' Citizen Kane - Reservoir Dogs is raw, grounded in reality, and definitely not for kids. Every actor gives it their all, with Steve Buscemi, Harvey Keitel, and Tim Roth giving especially great performances.
The script, directing, and cinematography are all Oscar-worthy. The lower-than-planned budget actually works to the film's advantage, since it led to the decision to have most of the film take place in a single location.
This helps elevate the film as a whole by telling a smaller, more personal story. Repeat viewings are made more interesting by all the little details you didn't notice the last time you watched it.
Like all movies, it has its flaws, but they're small and insignificant, as well as few and far between. Reservoir Dogs may not be Tarantino's best, but it definitely earns the title of Timeless Classic.
