Review of Reservoir Dogs (1992) by President P — 24 May 2013
The heist film always followed a pretty basic formula; how they're going to it, the heist itself which takes nearly the majority of the film, and the ending to wrap things up. However, Reservoir Dogs takes a completely different turn on the genre.
Reservoir Dogs never shows the actual heist, but alludes to it numerous times in the film to let the audience member imagine it for themselves, which surprisingly works to its favor. Director Quentin Tarantino elected on a much more non-liner structure, which works perfectly and is easy to follow.
The characters themselves are very great and each bring a different personality to the film and make it better, easily the acting is the best part of the film. The story again is incredibly brilliant, but has its fair share of slightly dull moments, but is still great from beginning to end.
Writing is good ,and at times perfect, but mostly for me at least wasn't as impressive as the acting and story. Tarantino himself puts on a great low budget and short show that is constantly interesting to watch.
Reservoir Dogs launched Tarantino's career and is not hard to see why; Reservoir Dogs is a highly memorable film and one of the greatest heist films ever made.
