Review of Reservoir Dogs (1992) by Stefan N — 06 Jun 2014
Quentin Tarantino's debut is not impressive as a whole, but we see him experimenting with certain future trademarks such as witty dialog, gore, pop culture references, and film homages. The movie feels like a B-movie, because it takes place in three places.
The acting is good, but none of the characters develop throughout the story or feel round. The story takes place in the events after a failed robbery. The story is simple in a boring way and the only thing that's holding it is Tarantino's slick direction.
There are some throw-away characters, but the others each represent different characteristics found in most people. For instance, Mr, White is kind, compassionate, serious, and naive. "Pulp Fiction" is one of my favorite films of all time, "Django Unchained" is my favorite film of the decade, and "Inglorious Basterds" was my favorite film of 2009, but "Resevoir Dogs" is simply alright.
