Review of Reservation Road (2007) by Liang Q — 08 Nov 2008
A heavy story to be sure, but in the end, it left me unsatisfied, wanting more closure. Without giving anything away, there are unanswered questions that would have made this story sit better. There are several moments that seem cliched, or based entirely on coincedence, placed strictly for plot development.
Plus, it seems that the grieving father eventually decides to take the "hollywood" way to resolve the problem, instead of really using his brains. I understand that the book was much more intelligent, which is strange since the movie was adapted by the author.
Perhaps it was rewritten and "hollywoodized.".
