Review of Reservation Road (2007) by Monika M — 02 Apr 2010
Don't get me wrong, Reservation road isn't perfect by any means, but I'm not totally convinced that it should be rejected as a mere melodramatic direct-to-TV mishap as most critics have done.
Phoenix, Ruffalo and Connelly deliver their roles with honesty and a depth of intensity that is quite impressing and entertaining to behold. The plot might be a little unbelievable, but seems forgiveable in the light of the movie's great performances.
Be warned though, that this movie relies almost exclusively on its strong dramatic intensity to keep the story interesting. Movie-goers that are therefore not huge fans of drama's should stay away, far away.
Nonetheless, an enjoyable and intensely dark look at how life's greatest tragedies can impact family dynamics to an extent of utter devastation... fun!
