Review of Rescue Dawn (2007) by Ratnakar S — 17 Feb 2013
Don't know why this movie never really got the acclaim it deserved, maybe coz it was not politically correct I guess. Werner Herzog often makes movies on heroes with impossible dreams, and here we have a real life US naval aviator captured during the Vietnam war.
A kind of Shawshank RedemptionI( imprisoned hero having hope) meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest( the asylum is substituted by the POW camp inmates broken after long captitivity and torture) in a Vietnamese jungle.
Great cinematography, music, and a splendid performance by Christian Bale, makes this a must watch.
