If darren aronofski's goal for "requiem for a dream" was to make it as difficult to watch and intensely dark as possible, he succeeded in a powerful way. ellen burstyn gives a frightening performance that truly must be seen.

the score adds a lot to the film, as does the amazing cinematography. if you have a hard time with films with dark content you might want to sit this one out, as it's painfully difficult to watch, particularly the last half hour.
