Review of Requiem for a Dream (2000) by Brian C — 24 Jan 2013
The bleakest, most unsettling depiction of drug addiction and shattered hope imaginable, with hyperactive editing and lots of truly frightening imagery. Ellen Burstyn was robbed at the Oscars. See it once and its guaranteed to get under your skin and stay there.
A true work of art. The way I'd figuratively describe the experience of this film is having your heart ripped out, stomped on until it's liquified, while blood still pumps through your veins, only ice cold, and Bruce Lee simultaneously kicks the shit out of you.
