Although gritty to the point of near nausea, there is no movie I have ever seen that delivers its message more effectively than Requiem for a Dream. Not only is the story dramatic and compelling, but the direction and cinematography, particular the smart use of varying shot lengths, offers several moments of truly unique filmmaking - a quality that even the most prestigious directors struggle with.
