Review of Repulsion (1965) by Zoran S — 24 Sep 2009
The Blu-ray version of this looks stunning. It really reveals the formal and pictorial complexity of the film. As for the film itself, it isn't Polanski's greatest work, and isn't nearly as strong as The Tenant, his other film about madness, apartment dwelling, and paranoia.
Its strength, and its weakness, is that it privileges the exterior spatialization of interior states of mind at the expense of intellectual or dramatic consistency.
