Review of Repulsion (1965) by Elizabeth R — 15 Nov 2008
This movie, to me, is moreso sad and tragic than scary. It's about a beautiful young woman who is repulsed by sex to the point that she makes herself a recluse. A history of sexual abuse is hinted at.
Catherine Deneuve, who plays the main character Carol, is in virtually every frame and has very little dialogue yet she manages to keep the audience interested. This movie is deeply psychological and maybe Polanski's best work.
