Polanski manages to deliver a disturbing tale about a character who disintegrates mentally. In the first hour, "Repulsion" enforces character development; it isn't until the second hour, when the film begins to get darker, stranger and more surreal, as Catherine Deneuve's character stars loosing her grip on reality and the lines between reality and dreams are blurred with some very suggestive rape sequences and sexuality.

Polanski's attention to sound is most impressive, as silence is a great way of building tension and some sounds are amplified - thus getting viewers more involved.

The cracks on the wall representing Carol's shattering mind and hands bursting through the wall representing the character's repulsion are just a few extra touches that make this movie a true masterpiece.
