Review of Reprise (2006) by Megan W — 18 Oct 2008
This movie was an incredibly sweet and realistic look at mental illness. Though it seems to be heralded as mostly about friendship between competitive friends, I didn't get that except as maybe a secondary theme.
It seemed like a deep sea diving mission in the way it would alternate between superficial and fun narratives (think "Trainspotting") and really deep bittersweet personal moments that were very emotional and very real... I think this movie had to have been written by someone who was either bipolar or very much in love with someone bipolar, and I think everyone should get over their issue with subtitles (if applicable) to watch this because you'll love these people, too.
Very well acted, very well written, and while it's not going to win the prize for the most deep or contreversial or most ground-breaking drama at whatever festivals it's going to be seen at... I think the sweetness was overpowering and would recommend it highly.
