Review of Reprise (2006) by Catherine Y — 06 Nov 2008
The visuals and music extoll the effervescence of youth but the plot is far from that. Yes, it does dwell upon camaraderie which is the crux of any young person's life. But to relegate it to just that isgross injustice.
While dealing with the usual themes of heartache, careers and realty that confronts people making the transition from academia to reality, Joachim Trier never lets it seem cliched or trite. Also in any some ways the movie alludes to how great art is very rarely created by well adjusted, happy people.
