Review of Reprise (2006) by Brandon M — 07 Dec 2008
Reprise is like Norway's answer Trainspotting but more intellectual and without all the drugs. Director Joachim Trier finds an inventive way to tell his tale of two competing wannabe writers in their early 20s, one of who is mentally falling apart.
Reprise is the rare movie that makes people in their 20s interesting. It's made up of vignettes - my favorite is one where a man takes his estranged girlfriend to Paris in an attempt to reconnect- it's an absolutely gorgeous mixture of sadness and beauty and melancholy that shows what it's like to fall in and out of love at the same time.
If you let it, Reprise will take you places.
