Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) by Melissa M — 28 Nov 2009
Really not my bag, but I cannot deny all the cool things that it has going for it. It's the not-so-distant future, where there is a worldwide epidemic of organ failures. Along come GeneCo, a company that makes expensive organ transplants affordable, and that's where the repo men come in to play.
If you don't make your payments, the repo man will repossess your organs. Now, there's a lot of things that I really like going on here in this rockpera. For one thing, it's absolutely original; you've never seen a movie quite like this before.
Terrance Zdunich, I have no idea where he came from, but he's hugely talented. The songs are really cool as well; they're sung/talked in the same manner as the songs in Sweeney Todd. At the same time, musicals have to be really freaking engrossing for me to get into them, and this never really grabbed me at any point.
.. I can understand why fans of this movie just love it to death, even if it is not for me.
