Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) by Jess C — 16 Dec 2011
It took me a little while to get comfortable with the constant opera like singing but after I was it was pretty enjoyable. The story is interesting and to the critic who said "David Cronenberg might have made a great movie with the plot to Repo! The Genetic Opera.
" I agree whole heatedly. The plot does seem like a David Cronenberg plot. There were a few songs I did like, although the singing was at first kind of annoying. I would watch this again. Oddly enough (I just found this out) the director of this movie is directing a remake of Scanners.
(Scanners being a David Cronenberg film from 1981). A remake of Scanners. Wow.. and I was just talking about Cronenberg, lol. How appropriate. Anyways.. this was a really interesting concept, it's no say.
.. Rocky Horror.. but.. it's interesting enough and if more like this come out I just hope it's put together better, especially the singing parts.. although hey.. when it comes to "opera" the singing and storytelling always does seem unusual from what I know of operas.
.. and since they are singing in English.. it's not as elegant as other languages so that made things strange as well.
