Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) by Jean Carlo C — 19 Feb 2012
Chances are that if you're already primed to go see this movie, then you won't be disappointed. For everyone else though, you'll either see it as a disaster of epic proportions, or as a curious mess.
The idea of a cyper-punk/splatterfest as a musical is an intriguing one, unfortunately it never really gets off the ground. The songs are forgettable, the acting bland, the directing is mediocre at best, and the story just doesn't do it.
Hot Topic kids are sure to go gaga over the Marilyn Manson-esque imagery, as well as be enticed by the casting of Buffy's Anthony Head (possibly the film's highlight), but besides that this movie is likely to divide viewers at a Boondock Saints-caliber level.
