Review of Repo Men (2010) by Remote G — 31 Jan 2011
I always find myself wanting to hate Jude Law in every film he stars in, but then I realise he really is a good actor. I think it's mainly his charm that I'm jealous of. As the film opens, however, it seems like he was only cast because they couldn't get Jason Statham. It wasn't long till I was won over though.
Yes this film has a great lead in Jude Law. Forest Whitaker is also fantastic throughout the film. The premise is certainly intriguing. The script is very witty in places and raised a good few laughs, and there are some great action sequences.
Unfortunately that's pretty much the only positive things I can think of about this film. The screenplay is far too formulaic and extremely predictable and the plot twist at the end won't be raising any gasps. The amount of gore on display seems extremely out of place against the rest of the film. As for the direction, equally as formulaic and boring as the screenplay.
I kept the film on purely hoping for something to rescue it. The premise and lead performances suggested a satisfying ending, but it never came. I simply came away thinking "Well that was a shame".
