Review of Repo Men (2010) by Scott T — 26 Mar 2011
After reading the one star reviews I'd seen for this, I wasn't expecting much. The plot of the story has been done to death and better in the likes of Minority Report and Total Recall but I thought it was pretty good to be honest overall.
A buffed up Jude Law looked the part and was decent in the fight scenes that popped up from time to time. It is pretty gory at times (hence the 18 or R certificate) and has an interesting concept at its core.
Forrest Whittaker is cool as always despite his character being a bit dull. It could have been much moodier for me though and the music was horribly misplaced at times. So much so that it spoilt some of the 'repo' scenes.
Problems I had with it (some petty admittedly) were that there was nothing resolved with Remy's family at the end, the fact that he kept fighting with his wife over his job was never explained properly.
Liev Schreiber is wasted. Alice Braga's character gettting upgrades instead of just replacement organs is never explained either and could have made the movie much more interesting. The movie is at least 20 mins too long and the ending is a kop out.
Balanced out though it's interesting enough and definitely not a one star movie. If you fancy something a bit different give it a try but be warned it's far from perfect.
