A surreal comedy with punks and aliens. If you like The Big Lebowski check it out. The way multiple groups run through the plot, revolving around a particular object, reminds me of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. The trunk opening with its' never seen contents brings to mind the taxi driver from Heavy Metal, the suitcase from Pulp Fiction, and the face-melting Ark of the Covenant from Indiana Jones. The way philosophies particular to the movie come up and are repeated (pieces like the book) reminds me of Southland Tales.

All the plot threads are handled well and there're plenty of small bits of weirdness (ladies metal hand, hail) that go unexplained and flavor the flick. On the flipside, the execution of shootouts is awkward (the one in the store's the best; the one in the stairwell has stock gunfire audio which doesn't synch up). The directing/cinematography's alright and the acting's adequate in the best spots.

Most fun for all that's going on off-screen during the course of the film (and plot polish like the visibly burnt hand that's uncommented on) but the implementation's not as exceptional.

SPOILERS.

The ending reminds me of Greece's ending.
