Review of Rent (2005) by Andrewm. — 24 Nov 2005
Having seen the broadway hit, the silver screen version was a little bit of a disappointment. However, after realizing that a movie could in no way capture the edgyness or raw talent that the stage demands, I accepted Columbus' adaptation as a wonderful movie.
It was generally true to the original story, the songs were well performed, and unlike many theatre-movie transformations, the plot was quite easy to understand. All in all, it was very entertaining, in a thoughtful, rough-around-the-edges sort of way.
