It should be recognized for the visual style, but at times it is too distracting. And the black and White look was hit and miss, sometimes you think about how great it looks but other times you ask yourself, "why wasn't this is color?" The plot has been done plenty of times and the characters just weren't interesting enough to care about them.
Some may like it, but I didn't.
