Review of Renaissance (2006) by Damon H — 04 Nov 2012
In the near future (2032) the world is run by a mega-corp called Avalon after 'the war'. In this future all hell breaks loose after one of Avalon's scientists is kidnapped and from there on we follow a detective trying to find her. The predictable storyline is ofcourse that this mega-corp is doing evil mega-corp things and must be stopped.
It takes dark imagry to a whole new level since it's deep black with accents of white. On the one hand the animation is really impressive, for instance the amount of detail they manage to put forward with just two colours, but on the other hand it looks like a crappy childrens cartoon, especially the motion capture aspect feels really cheap. All in all I would have really preferred to see this movie in real time cinema with real people and actual colours.
The characters are remarkably French, not just because they speak French, but they also emote French, look French, dress French, drive French cars and smoke French.
I was kind of dreading this one, but in the end I'm glad I decided to watch it anyway.
