Review of Renaissance (2006) by Sean C — 17 Dec 2007
Elf - I can't say I found this very funny and for the most part was rather bored with it. Granted I'm only a particularly huge fan of Ferrell (liked him better on SNL) and I'm less and less interested in his movies.
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - I'm not easily offended so I won't say that I disliked it because of what some might call "offensive" material but I did dislike it for its idiotic material. Most of the jokes don't hit the mark, while the majority of it is just downright stupid.
The Number 23 - I must say that I found this interesting and I applaud Carrey for trying to do something different and not in his comfort zone. With that being said the plot is a mess and the film while Carrey isnt exactly spectacular he gives a decent enough performace. The portions of the movie dealing with the adventures of detective Fingerling are too bizarre and simply don't mess with the film. Carrey is suppose to be entranced by the book yet the books material doesnt give the audience the same impression.
Renaissance - A beautifully crafted and imaginative film yet their just isnt enough in its thin plot to keep us completely satisfied. Good voice acting helps the movie but its basically style over substance.
Disturbia - It is easy to see that Shai LaBeouf is a charasmatic young actor but his performance just isnt enough to cover the plot holes of this at times entertaining yet forgettable movie.
