Review of Remember the Titans (2000) by Alimuzzaman A — 11 Jul 2010
Pretty over-rated in terms of its true dramatic value. The combined romanticism of the civil-rights struggle and American football is enough to make what is an extremely formulaic film appear more than it is.
Not that the film isn't well acted and produced. It certainly captures the aesthetics of the time effectively. But none of it elevates this film above it's very simple script, which doesn't really lend itself to much character examination. In the end, you almost get a sense that you could've read the same story in a newspaper and have understood the inner motivations of the characters about as well.
