The real stars of the movie are not Coach Boone and Coach Yoast, it's the high school players. Gerry Bertier and Big Julius shine as their friendship develops from a forced partnership at football camp to genuine respect and brotherly love.
Louie, Petey, Sunshine, and Rev are strong supporting characters. The coaches' daughters (Cheryl and Nicki) have an unusual conflict: Cheryl talks sports, Nicki would rather style Barbie dolls.
