Review of Remember the Daze (2008) by Toby E — 16 Jun 2008
This movie has just taken over The Breakfast Club to be in my top 3 favourite fun movies of all time. The other two being Dazed and Confused and Empire Records. The film follows the lives of around 20 or more high school students on their final day of high school for the year of 1999. For some it means graduation, for others it means they are finally seniors, for the rest, it means they are freshmen, but for all, it means one hell of a way to finish out the year. It actually reminded me a lot of Dazed and Confused because it involved graduation, a vast amount of students all of whom were given equal screen time and the drugs. I was almost expecting something bad to happen towards the end to cut short the fun, but I guess that is because I watched Love Is The Drug before this which used that technique. I am glad the movie stayed enjoyable and upbeat.
The cast were great. Some recognizable names and faces including Leighton Meester (Blair from Gossip Girl as a blonde hottie), Amber Heard (who if you had to pick a lead role, it was hers), Chris Marquette (from Alpha Dog and The Invisible, along with his brother in real life playing his on-screen brother), John Robinson (from Elephant), Alexa Vega (from the Spy Kids movies), Michael Welch (from Day of the Dead and An American Crime), Melonie Diaz (from Be Kind Rewind) and Lyndsy Fonseca (from How I Met Your Mother and Desperate Housewives). The music was suitable to the time (1999) and it wasn't filmed like your usual teen comedy/drama. It was filmed an indie drama type film, quite reminiscent of the style used in Little Athens. I definitely recommend this to people who are in the mood for a fun teen drama, not someone who is going to be overly critical.
