Review of Remember Me (2010) by Kateb. — 12 Mar 2010
You know, I went to see this in order to find out if Robert Pattinson could act, since my rentals of the Twilight DVDs didn't really convince me. I wasn't expecting much, considering that it looked like your typical tearjerker romance, but hey, every girl has to see one of those every once in a while.
And apparently, today was my day. It's blandly inoffensive in its familiarity for all but the last few minutes. Angsty boy and angsty girl fall in love and share the tragedies that are inevitably in their respective pasts.
Both have family issues, both just need someone to love. This sort of story is analogous to the trope of the young underdog defeating evil - you know how it'll end, but you still want to see a variation in the theme once in awhile.
However, the ending completely killed any interest I had previously had in giving this film a more positive rating than what I have given it. It felt dirty, cheap, exploitative, and thoroughly unnecessary, and I encourage anyone who thinks they want to see this film not to do so.
