Review of Religulous (2008) by Brett G — 25 Mar 2010
Entertaining and thought provoking at spots, but pulls a Micheal Moore by interviewing a bunch of morons.
If you want to discredit anything than just go out and find some people remotely associated with said thing and then make sure that they are morons/crazy and then you will discredit it. Also, throw in some timely editing and you get the exact product you set out for in the first place.
Saying that religion ruins the world spits in the face of all of the people of many different backgrounds who have given their lives to the service and love of their fellow man. Its too general.
I mean, at one point there is a clip of a girl saying, "I don't hate gays, but God does." This person is obviously out of touch with any idea of what it means to love your neighbor or any sort of golden rule that many religions hold to. That kind of stuff discredits all of the interesting stuff he was trying to do. It just turned goofy. Interview the Anti-Chirst. Interview pot smoker guy. Interview the Jewish guy that invents stuff to use on the sabbath. Interesting stuff, but pointless if he wants to make a point.
Maher also lied about what kind of movie he was making as to trick people into interviewing them. That's kind of silly.
